Many people today have pets. In fact, that is one of the bonuses to home ownership in Boca Raton, Florida! However are you aware that your pets can result in your home taking longer to sell or being sold at a reduced price? I know you must be thinking, how could this be. It sounds alarming, but really you just need to take a few extra steps to ensure that your home is up to snuff. Consider taking care of these items before listing your home for sale and ask me for more specific recommendations on selling your home.
Wear & Tear, Chew & Claw – As a seller, you want to do what you can to minimize any wear and tear that may have been caused by your puppy. For example, examine your home for dirt, fur, stains, chew and claw marks. Look closely at the exterior of your home too. Fix or replace any structural damage as well as and level out your landscaping beds as much as possible. Add mulch as needed to freshen your your your plantings.
Be “Scent”sible – A home absorbs the scents of its residents. When you own a pet, your home naturally adopts their scent as well. Vacuuming frequently and opening windows windows are easy fixes to alleviate immediate issues, and area or general stain treatment is advised, as well. Depending, deep cleaning may be needed throughout your home and carpet replacement may be necessary. Please don’t take this personally. We love our pets. That doesn’t mean everyone else does. The Humane Society has tips for stain removal, too. Note: Please recognize that a quick spray of air freshener is not the answer.
Plan a Mini-Vacation – I am an animal lover and have pets myself. I say this to you in all seriousness. If possible, please remove your pets during showings. They are a distraction to potential buyers looking at your home. If the buyers happen to be pet people, they will spend more time looking at your pets than looking at your home.
Keeping the above in mind should help you to get the best price for your home and have you and your pet(s) enjoying your new surroundings in no time.
