Here’s a closer look at each.
Adopt-a-Family of the Palm Beaches
Adopt-a-Family of the Palm Beaches has a Holiday Adopter program served 331 children last year, and organizers expect even more this year. You can give to families who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford holiday gifts by donating money that the foundation will use to purchase gift cards or by purchasing gifts directly for the families by shopping from their wish lists. The organization recommends spending between $75 and $100 per family member. Gifts are due by December 1 this year.
Touch a Heart Foundation’s Adopt-a-Family
The Touch a Heart Foundation’s Adopt-a-Family program lets you match with a family based on your location or a number of family members – and unlike many other programs, you actually meet the people you’re helping. These wish lists are a lot different than standard kids’ wish lists, too; people request things like pillows because their kids are all sharing one or kitchen pots so they can cook for their families. When you sign up to share holiday spirit with these families, you’ll get the family name, their contact number and their holiday wish list, as well as their case worker’s information. You don’t have to meet them, but the option is there; alternatively, you can deliver your gifts to the family’s agency or case worker. Even small donations are welcome; every little bit helps struggling families in Boca Raton and the surrounding communities.
Boca Raton Toy Drive
Six Rotary Clubs come together each year to hold the annual Boca Raton Toy Drive. This year, the event is taking place on Sunday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sugar Sand Park (300 South Military Trail in Boca Raton). If you’re a business owner, you can get a donation box from the Rotary and place it in your lobby; they’ll come pick them up from you. If you’re an individual donor, you can purchase toys and bring them to Sugar Sand Park yourself or order them from the Rotary Club’s Amazon wish list and have them sent directly to the organization.
Boys and Girls Clubs of PBC Holiday Gift Drive
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County’s Holiday Gift Drive is collecting toys and teen-appropriate gifts for club members this year. You can shop their Amazon gift list or drop toys off at several Starbucks locations in Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach, Jupiter and Boca Raton. They ask that you donate unwrapped toys on or before December 11 so there’s enough time to wrap them and distribute them to kids in need.
United Way of Palm Beach County Toy Drive
The United Way of Palm Beach County is holding a virtual toy drive this year. You can purchase items directly from Amazon, Target or Walmart and have them sent to the United Way, which will then distribute them to needy families all over Boca Raton and the surrounding communities.
