Pets as a Source of Comfort to Humans
Pets are a source of comfort to us and always have been. Do you find your dogs and cats have been a great comfort to you this year more than ever? I’ll bet the answer is yes.
Throughout 2020, the things I found most comforting are my dogs. Crazy, you may be thinking, but I think not. Dogs are always there for you. They sense your moods. They console you. They are reassuring in times of sickness and stress. Truly, they are a constant source of comfort. I don’t know how I would have made it through this year without them.
Dogs Are Awesome Companions
Do your dogs go for walks or hikes with you? Go for a ride in the car with you? Even swim with you or perhaps just hang out and watch a movie? Do they give you a feeling of companionship just knowing they are there? Even if they sleep most of the day, you still know they’re there. You’re not alone.
They sleep on the bed (well, in my house they do.) They follow me from room to room. They have beds in my office where they hang out when I’m working. They are totally in tune to me.
My dogs have always brought me a sense of calm, but even more so now. They add something special to a household.
If you have high blood pressure, does petting your dog help to calm you? Do your furry friends help you to relax? When you’re sick, does stroking your cat calm you? Or just make you feel better laying next to you. Dogs just want to please. Of course, this is my opinion, but I think many would agree with me. These are stressful times and our pets bring us a sense of calmness and peace.

Dogs Have a Natural Sense
Dogs sense things before we do. They have a natural sense of things before we may become aware. They hear movements outside. They watch out and protect you. I believe dogs sense sickness and stress, in both their humans and their furry friends. So do many others. There have been tales of dogs sniffing out cancer and knowing even before we do. We lost a very special dog three years ago. My vet told us our other dog knew she was dying long before we did.
All dogs know when you’re not feeling well. Many will lay beside you. I had one dog who was, I believe, was smarter than all the rest. Not only did she know you were sick, but if you walked into the house and had been at the dentist or had a blood test, she would go right to the spot and sniff. It’s uncanny but she knew. When you came home, she immediately sniffed your face wanting to know where you were, who you may have been with and what you ate.

Animals Help to Ease Loneliness
Loneliness is a terrible thing for anyone but especially for seniors. Having a pet helps to relieve some of that loneliness. You now have a friend. You have someone to talk to, someone to watch tv with, someone to go for a walk with, someone who eats at the same time as you (maybe.) Someone to watch tv or just to hang out with. Yes, I talk to my my dogs!
This has been proven with older adults in nursing homes. Even stuffed animals have a calming effect on seniors.
Pet-Friendly Homes in South Florida
Because of the abundant love we have for our pets, we consider them part of the family. As such, it’s only natural they live with us. This can, at times, become a problem when certain communities have pet restrictions that will not accept your furry friend. Now what to do? That gated community or condo in Boca Raton will not accept your pet. Or that 55+ community in Boynton Beach. Don’t knock yourself out calling all over trying to determine the pet restrictions. Hire a pet-friendly buyers agent to help you. One who appreciates how much your Fido, Max or Chloe means to you, and I know they mean the world to you.

In Summary
Your dog thinks the world of you. Your cat may, too. You may have others, but they have only you. It’s been proven that pets offer us solace when needed, companionship when needed and more.
A pet gives some people a reason to get up and get out in the morning. You have to take the dog for a walk. Meet the other dog walkers. The dogs socialize and so do you – social distancing, of course! You even have someone to talk to. It’s a win-win situation.
